Jeffrey Archer's Series of Novels

Believe it or not, I did not get a chance to read a novel until my college first year. A novel given by one of my friends triggered my novel reading craze. ‘Kane and Abel’ by Jeffrey Archer was the “culprit”. The author has a unique style of writing that lures the readers. His stories are a blend of emotions, love, business, politics, thrill and suspense, well enough to attract all kind of people.

‘Kane and Abel’ is the story of two men born on the same day but in different corners of the World. The novel revolves around their childhood and how fate brings them to the same place. Kane becomes a banker inheriting it from his father, while Abel gets into a hotel business. In a turn of event, Abel considers Kane to be his rival and pledges to take revenge against him. The rest of the story is full of plots made by Abel, which is overcome by Kane in an interesting manner. They understand each other only in their last days. The story also talks about their children but the main focus of them is in his next novel ‘Prodigal daughter’.

I loved ‘Prodigal daughter’ more than ‘Kane and Abel’. This has more family touch, emotions and of course politics. Irony in this story is Florentyna, daughter of Abel and Richard, son of Kane fall in love, without knowing about their fathers’ enmity. This has a usual movie touch, though!

The author projects Florentyna as the hero who happens to be a successful business woman and gradually enters into politics and finally achieves her childhood ambition of becoming the highest honor of US president. But Richard wins the heart of readers, especially women by being the man behind her success. ( Bet, all female readers would like their husbands to be like Richard after reading this..!!!). Their joint effort in securing their father’s business gives the readers a tough time to close the  book. The author creates a sympathy wave when Richard, who had been everything to her, does not exist to see Florentyna taking up her Presidential oath.

Inspired by the success of this novel, the author linked his successive novel ‘Shall we tell the President?’ to “Prodigal daughter”. This has less connection to it though, except that the President happens to be Florentyna.

The novel is a full thriller unlike the previous ones.
Couple of FBI agents come to know about a planned assassination of the US president. They have very less information about the people involved in the plot. With just few days left for the planned day and the only clue that a Senator is also involved, the story goes with full suspense until the culprits are captured in the last minute.

This novel is packed with information about US politics and FBI. This is another feature of Jeffrey Archer’s novels that I like.

So, what are you waiting for?? Grab of copy of his novels , if you have not read one..
